Which of the five ceremony settings photographs best?
It depends on the look you want and the time you marry. The Pontoon is all water and bush, Vineyard Hill gives the big valley view, Eucalypt Grove is shady and relaxed, and Valley View Tree is the most private. We'd visit each of them together at the hour you plan to marry, so the choice is made on real light, not brochures.
What happens if it rains on the day?
The estate offers The Barn, an indoor ceremony space with oak barrels and a crystal chandelier, as its weather-protected option. The barrels and the warm timber make good portraits in their own right, and the Cricketers Pavilion's tall windows give us soft light for family groups while the rain passes.
Can we get ready on the estate?
Wandin Valley Estate has seven self-contained villas on site. If you book them, we'll start in your villa and photograph the morning there, then follow you out to your vows. Check with the estate how villa bookings work alongside a wedding, as they don't spell that out online.
How far is Wandin Valley Estate from Newcastle?
About fifty minutes for us by car from Cooks Hill, via the Hunter Expressway into Lovedale. That makes it one of the easiest vineyard venues for Newcastle guests, and a dawn start in your villa is no trouble for us at all.
Can we use the cricket oval for photos?
Eucalypt Grove sits beside the oval and the estate mentions lawn games on the adjacent cricket ground, so it's very much part of the venue. A bat and ball for the bridal party, the scoreboard with your names on it and the pavilion behind make a set of pictures you won't get anywhere else.
When should we schedule portraits for the best light?
With the range to the west, the last hour before the sun drops behind it is the warmest. We'd plan to take you up to Vineyard Hill or out to Valley View Tree for that hour, then come back to the Pontoon for the soft blue light once the sun has gone.
